For many people, one of their biggest assets is their credit score. Believe it or not, most credit reports contain inaccuracies. Many of these accuracies are serious enough to depress credit scores. These inaccuracies are due to:
Mismerging – Person A’s information is put onto Person B’s credit report because they have similar names.
Identity Theft – By and large this is and has been the fastest growing crime in the United States.
Good ol’ fashion mix ups. These still happen too. With computers, they happen even faster.
Anyway, you have the right to get a free credit report at http://www.annualcreditreport.com. Its the industry standard website and it will not cost you a dime. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the duty falls upon YOU to manage your credit and to be vigilant of any inaccuracies and to bring them to the attention of the consumer reporting agencies.
